Innovations in Adolescent Health

The health care community is becoming increasingly attentive to customizing the medical home model for patient groups with distinct needs.  One such population is adolescents (ages 12 to 21); a group with unique health needs, service use patterns, and care experiences. This webinar will help you learn more about specific models of adolescent health care, perspectives from adolescents regarding the importance of primary care, and new  recommendations for improving the effectiveness of a medical home for adolescent patients.

Peggy McManus

President, National Alliance to Advance Adolescent Health
Peggy McManus is President of The National Alliance to Advance Adolescent Health, and formerly co-director of the Maternal and Child health Policy Research Center. She holds a master’s degree in health sciences and is an expert on health care delivery and financing issues for youth and their families. She has a particular interest in research related to the organization of primary care systems for adolescents and played a key role in a study of the benefits of medical home innovations for adolescents. She currently directs a transition quality improvement project in Washington, DC, and serves as a consultant to the National Health Care Transition Center (funded by HRSA). For more than two decades, Ms. McManus served as a consultant to the AAP Committee on Child Health Financing. read more

Chuck Wibbelsman, MD

Chief of Adolescent Medicine, Kaiser Permanente
Chuck Wibbelsman, MD is a pediatrician and Chief of Adolescent Medicine at Kaiser Permanente in San Francisco. He also serves as Chair of the Chiefs of Adolescent Medicine for Kaiser Permanente, Northern California.  He has extensive clinical experience with adolescents and is a professor in the department of pediatrics at the University of California, San Francisco. Prior to his joining The Permanente Medical Group, Dr. Wibbelsman was the chief of venereal disease control for San Francisco.  He has authored books for adolescents and their parents. Dr. Wibbelsman has been a member of the AAP Committee on Adolescence and president of The San Francisco Medical Society. He currently is an AAP chapter president and is on the board of directors of Larkin Street Youth Services in San Francisco. read more
