Health information technology has played a critical role in transforming healthcare. Primary care in particular has done an excellent job in adopting many of these new techniques and strategies by employing IT that healthcare researchers have recognized as potentially beneficial. Especially as practices move towards a more coordinated care system, a well organized EHR can make all the difference in effective communication within the care team. Early health IT efforts focused on things such as accurate coding, however the overall goal is to allow practices to provide higher quality care and ultimately see better health outcomes of their patients.
