Kevin A. Dorrance

CDR Kevin A. Dorrance is currently Chief, Internal Medicine, and Assistant Deputy Commander, Medical Services, at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center Bethesda. As head of Internal Medicine, he adapted and implemented the first patient-centered medical home in the military health system, where he now focuses on population health management.  He enlisted in 1981 and served as a gas turbine electronic technician on board the USS Hewitt (DD-966) and USS Acadia (AD-42). He achieved the rank of Chief Petty Officer before being accepted in the Enlisted Commissioning Program. CDR Dorrance was graduated from the University of Colorado at Boulder in 1991 with a BS degree in molecular cellular developmental biology and was commissioned as Ensign, United States Navy, that same year. He earned his medical degree in 1996 from Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences in Bethesda. He completed his residency in Internal Medicine at National Naval Medical Center in 2001 and then served as Chief of Residents in 2002. Since 2003, he has served as Director of the Diabetes Care Center and Department Head, Internal Medicine. In May 2009, he was appointed Integrated Service Chief, Internal Medicine at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center Bethesda. CDR Dorrance has also served on board the USNS Comfort (T-AH-20); at the Naval Surface Warfare Center in Indian Head, MD; and in Kuwait.
