Innovations in Oral Health and Primary Care Integration

Report that calls for two vital areas of the healthcare system to collaborate more. Primary care, as the main point of entry and access to support for patients in the healthcare system, represents a remarkable opportunity to better meet patients’ oral health needs across the socio-economic spectrum. In addition, integration of oral health and primary care is increasingly acknowledged as a key strategy to achieve health justice. Using the framework of the seven Principles of Primary Care, this report highlights the many diverse mechanisms and the varying scope of integration efforts across the U.S.

Santa Fe Group Salon Panel: Whole Person Care of Older Adults Through an Interprofessional Lens

It was a big month for oral health here in D.C.  On May 8 – 10, a collection of thought leaders came together for The Santa Fe Group Salon, Comprehensive Health Without Oral Health: The Medicare Paradox.  During the conference, PCPCC members Judith Haber and Anita Duhl Glicken, spoke on “Whole Person Care of Older Adults Through and Interprofessional Lens” and emphasized the importance of primary care and oral health integration.
 
Following the meeting, PCPCC has decided to join the coalition to support a Medicare dental benefit for medically necessary oral and dental health therapies has been established to advance this agenda.  The Community Statement on Medicare Coverage for Medically Necessary Oral and Dental Health Therapies has been signed on to by more than 90 organizations.
