Wendy Bennett

Wendy Bennett is an associate professor of medicine in the Division of General Internal Medicine and a primary care provider at Johns Hopkins Bayview-Internal Medicine. She also serves as core faculty in The Welch Center for Prevention, Epidemiology and Clinical Research, is the co-director for the Johns Hopkins Center for Women’s Health, Sex and Gender Research and has joint faculty appointments in the Bloomberg School of Public Health in the Departments of Epidemiology and Population, Family and Reproductive Health.

As Director of Research for Johns Hopkins Community Physicians, Dr. Bennett oversees the JHCP Research Office with a goal of increasing JHCP’s involvement in research and further advancing high-value, high quality, sustainable patient-oriented research, aligned with JHCP’s strategic priorities. She closely collaborates with JHCP providers, researchers and the Office of the Vice Dean of Clinical Investigation in the School of Medicine to enable and expand JHCP’s role in becoming a key part of the “learning health system.”

Dr. Bennett joined the GIM faculty 10 years ago, after completing the Internal Medicine- primary care track residency program at Johns Hopkins Bayview and then the Johns Hopkins GIM fellowship in clinical research. Her research program has focused on the prevention of diabetes, obesity and cardiovascular disease, especially among high-risk groups of women. She is especially interested in sustainable models to improve health behavior change to improve chronic disease prevention, care access and quality, and achieve health equity.

Dr. Bennett received her B.A. in Biochemistry from Rutgers University in 1998, her M.P.H. from the Rutgers University-School of Public Health in 2002 and her M.D. from Rutgers-Robert Wood Johnson Medical School in 2003.
