Marjorie Bowman

Dr. Marjorie A. Bowman is the Chief Academic Affiliations Officer for the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs, in Washington, D.C., where she oversees the largest health professions education program in the United States, including nearly 120,000 trainees annually in more than 40 different health professions.

Certified in Family Medicine and in Preventive Medicine, Dr. Bowman’s first position was as a commissioned officer in the US Public Health Service. Her career has spanned four universities, as teacher, clinician, researcher and leader.

She has served as a consultant to several branches of government and many universities and was a member of the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME). She also has served as President of both the American Board of Family Medicine and the Society of Teachers of Family Medicine.

Dr. Bowman is widely published in areas of behavior change, health personnel, women’s health, and community health (>200 publications). She currently edits the Journal of the American Board of Family Medicine (read in over 50 countries daily, with 10 million views a year). She is also past editor of the Journal of Women’s Health and the Archives of Family Medicine.
