Heather Brungardt

Heather Brungardt is currently the Manager for the Center for Quality at the American Academy of Family Physicians in Leawood, Kansas. In this capacity, Heather provides oversight of all PCMH and practice management activities as well as the Academy's quality initiatives. She is also assistant staff executive to the Academy's Commission on Quality and Practice.  Prior to assuming this position, Heather was the Manager of PCMH Initiatives.Heather's career in health care spans 25+ years. As a clinical social worker, Heather provided medical social work services in long term care, hospice, managed care and pediatric acute care settings. As an administrator, Heather provided executive level leadership to health care professionals in adult and pediatric inpatient, outpatient and community based settings developing innovative programs, establishing policy and providing fiscal oversight of her departments. She provided executive level leadership to 40+staff at a large non-profit free health clinic acting as principal investigator on multiple federal grants as well as project director for state, city and private foundation grants prior to joining the academy. Heather was also adjunct faculty for the University of Kansas teaching graduate level courses in social work in health and mental health and continues to present locally and nationally on a variety of health care topics.
