Life expectancy at birth in the United States declined by 1.5 years from 2019 to 2020 to the lowest level since 2003, according to new provisional data [1] from the CDC’s National Center for Health Statistics (NCHS). The drop in life expectancy in 2020 was the largest one-year decline since World War II, when life expectancy declined 2.9 years between 1942 and 1943.
