This webinar will focus on new PCC recommendations—ways to increase the adoption of shared decision-making (SDM) in integrated behavioral health care—informed by a literature review and the expert input of leaders across multiple stakeholder groups.

SDM is much less prevalent in the behavioral health space as compared to medical settings, potentially contributing to patient mistrust and poorer behavioral health outcomes. Presenters on this webinar will summarize the recommendations and discuss the implications for practices, policymakers, consumer advocates, employers and others interested in furthering SDM in integrated practices. Michelle Dirst, MA

Director, Practice Management and Delivery Systems Policy, American Psychiatric Association

At the American Psychiatric Association (APA), Michelle provides strategic leadership and direction for the policy division and manages critical issues ranging from digital health to addiction, privacy policy, and development of clinical practice guidelines. She has worked in health policy for over 15 years in senior roles, including as director of policy for the National Association of State Alcohol and Drug Abuse Directors, legislative expert for the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, and a professional staff member for the Senate Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions Committee where she advised the committee's chairman on mental health and substance use issues. read more

Renée Markus Hodin, JD

Deputy Director, Center for Consumer Engagement in Health Innovation, Community Catalyst

As Deputy Director of the Center for Consumer Engagement in Health Innovation, Renée Markus Hodin works to establish a powerful and effective consumer voice at all levels of the healthcare system in order to make it more responsive to consumers, particularly those who are most vulnerable. Prior to joining the Center, Renée served as the Director of the Voices for Better Health project, which brought a consumer voice to the design and implementation of new programs aimed at providing better coordinated, comprehensive, high-quality care to Medicare-Medicaid beneficiaries (“dual eligibles”). Renée’s expertise extends to other areas of health care including hospital free care and community benefits and healthcare conversions. read more

Dr. Shawn Griffin is the first physician to serve as President & CEO for URAC – the country’s leading independent, nonprofit accreditation organization based in Washington, D.C. Before taking the helm at URAC, Shawn worked at Premier Inc., where he led clinical performance improvement and applied analytics activities as Vice President. He also served as a consultant for both physician-hospital quality improvement and analytics.
