Week in Review: Laying the Primary Care Foundation for 2013

January 10th: Laying the Primary Care Foundation for 2013

 Dear Members and Friends:

Happy New Year!  On behalf of the board, membership and staff at the PCPCC we look forward to an exciting and challenging year ahead for primary care and the medical home!

A major priority for us in 2013 is focusing the majority of PCPCC's strategic activities within our five Stakeholder Centers which has led to some changes to our call schedule:
  • Instead of weekly calls we will now host monthly calls on the last Thursday of every month at 11AM ET
  • We will continue to distribute the Medical Home Week in Review every Thursday morning
  • Beginning in February, our Stakeholder Centers will host "Quarterly Open Forum Calls" to help members and the general public learn more and provide feedback regarding center activities and priorities
I encourage you to participate in today's webinar at 11AM ET about engaging patients as members of the medical home care team, and we'll return on Thursday, January 31st when BonSecours Medical Group and Anthem Virginia will talk about their innovative medical home initiative.

We look forward to catching up then!

Sincerely,

Marci Nielsen, PhD, MPH
Chief Executive Officer

PCPCC's 2013 New Year's Resolutions

It's that time of year again, and the PCPCC has put together some New Year's resolutions of our own to make sure we do our best in 2013 to to build support for primary care and medical home.

Enhance the work of our Stakeholder Centers:  Our Centers will be working harder than ever to prioritize PCPCC's goals and activities. This includes developing publications, resources, and webinars, and identifying public policy priorities and communications strategies. This week they've gathered in D.C. for their first ever leadership retreats, and in February you can learn more by participating in the Center Quarterly Open Forum Calls.

Connect with patients and consumers: This year we're dedicated to ensuring that patient perspectives are incorporated throughout our work, which means you'll hear a lot more from patients at our events, webinars, and annual meetings-- starting with today's webinar with Brad Thompson!

Improve and increase communications: This year we're working on improving the consistency, 'user-friendliness,' and visual appeal of our brand and materials. This includes launching a new website in spring 2013 and creating new materials that articulate the value of PCPCC and the medical home across a variety of audiences.

Bring together new and old friends: We're co-sponsoring the National Medical Home Summit in Philadelphia on March 13-15 and the PCPCC Annual Fall Conference in Washington on October 13-15. We'll also be convening an Employer & Purchaser Summit this spring to identify trends and models for value-based insurance design.

Ramp up advocacy efforts: With increasing political and fiscal uncertainty and health reform implementation well underway, we'll be making a significant effort to inform policymakers and the public about the medical home's impact on costs, quality and health outcomes. This includes producing publications and policy briefs, and increasing our presence on Capitol Hill and among state officials.
