PCC Statement on the Making Care Primary Model Announcement by CMMI

Statement by Primary Care Collaborative's Ann Greiner, President/CEO, Regarding the Making Care Primary Model Announcement by the Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services Innovation Center (CMMI)

“Today’s new CMS announcement is a promising step forward for primary care practices in 8 participating states. Aligning requirements across Medicare and Medicaid, the new Making Care Primary model aspires to meet diverse primary care practices where they are and invest in primary care. Primary care has been shown to increase equity and improve outcomes.

“But with nationwide erosion of primary care access and glaring disparities, neither patients nor communities have time to wait. That’s why 27 organizations, including PCC and NAACOS, have called for CMS to commit this year to make similar investments in hybrid payment models (prospective + FFS) available nationwide through CMS' largest alternative payment model, the Medicare Shared Savings Program, covering 12.4 million beneficiaries.”

“Both at CMMI and across CMS’ permanent programs, let’s keep pushing ahead what works: whole-person primary care.”
