Primary care in the U.S. is already stretched thin, and with millions of Americans set to gain health care coverage in 2014 and beyond, there is growing urgency to strengthen the workforce to ensure access for all. The current momentum behind transforming health care delivery and payment models could also provide a natural opportunity to address critical workforce challenges.

This webinar will explore the dynamics behind workforce shortages as well as strategies for increasing primary care capacity. Speakers will discuss the following:

  • opportunities and challenges facing primary care, including the effects of delivery system innovations on the demand for services
  • initiatives to attract medical students to family practice and to close workforce gaps on primary care teams by recruiting and training physician assistants and other health professionals
  • a new payment model designed to promote efficiency within primary care practices, and a physician perspective on how well it's working
  • the use of tele-medicine to improve access to care in underserved areas while responding to a growing consumer demand for convenience

Registration for this free webinar closes at noon (EDT) on August 5th. This event is part of NIHCM Foundation's Transforming the Health Care Landscape webinar series.
