Topic: Integrating PFE into Choosing Wisely Implementation

Objectives:

Become familiar with condition-specific Choosing Wisely materials and insights from patient and family advisors on using the materials;
Gain an understanding of successful Choosing Wisely implementation scenario;
Learn how patient and family engagement can improve and enhance Choosing Wisely implementation;
Hear insights from patient engagement advisor on implementation; and
Hear practical starting places for involving patients and families in implementation.

Janice Tufte

Janice Tufte was born and raised in Seattle, Washington. She has also resided in Wisconsin, Minnesota, California, Vermont, and New Mexico. She attended college in Washington, Minnesota, and California with a focus on sociology and special education. Tufte has a passion for connecting communities, organizations and or individuals to one other. She is an expert at taking learned best practices and information gained from one organization or institution and sharing that important knowledge with others at diverse levels: Patient to C Suite. She calls this practice of connecting the dots “pollination.” She currently presents as an individual to college classes, on panels and at medical conferences. read more

Kelly Rand, MA, CPH

Program Officer, ABIM Foundation

Kelly Rand is a Program Manager at the ABIM Foundation. In this role, she oversees activities related to grants and the Choosing Wisely Learning Network. Ms. Rand provides technical assistance outside the learning network as well and has offered her expertise to such projects as the advisory technical assistance committee for the Taking Action on Overuse project at Kaiser’s McColl Center for Healthcare Innovation, Vizient’s Shared Decision-Making Appropriate Use of Head and Back Imaging Tests Collaborative and American Society of Hospital Pharmacists’ 2018 Commission on Goals Opioid Council. She has presented on overuse at meeting such as IHI, the Families USA Health Action Conference and the ONC’s Annual Consumer Health IT Summit. read more

Lisa Letourneau, MD, MPH, FACP

Dr. Letourneau is an experienced physician and public health advocate who brings extensive experience leading large-scale improvement initiatives and will serve as a contracted consultant for the project assisting with clinical direction, clinician engagement, and advancement of PFE and Choosing Wisely tools clinical practices. In her former role leading Maine Quality Counts, a regional health improvement collaborative, Dr. Letourneau led several multi-stakeholder improvement efforts, including the multi-payer Maine Patient Centered Medical Home Pilot, the Maine Aligning Forces for Quality (AF4Q) initiative, and the Northern New England Practice Transformation Network. read more

Mary Minniti, BS, CPHQ

Senior Policy and Program Specialist, Institute for Patient- and Family-Centered Care

Mary Minniti is a Certified Professional in Healthcare Quality and has over 30 years experience in the field. She joined the Institute for Patient- and Family-Centered Care in 2011 and works as a Senior Policy and Program Specialist. She was lead author on a Robert Wood Johnson Foundation funded report, Individual and Family Engagement in the Medicaid Population: Emerging Best Practices and Recommendations and IPFCC’s publication: Essential Allies Patient, Resident, and Family Advisors: A Guide for Staff Liaisons. read more
