Primary Care and COVID-19: It’s Complicated—Leveraging Primary Care, Public Health, and Social Assets is the PCC’s annual evidence-based report for 2021, prepared by the Robert Graham Center.

The report shows that people in communities with the most robust primary care, the strongest public health infrastructure, and the fewest social vulnerabilities were substantially less likely to die from COVID-19 and slightly less likely to get infected with the virus, as compared to communities on the other end of the spectrum. The analysis spans before and after COVID-19 vaccines were widely available.

This online report release event will include a briefing on the report’s findings and a panel discussion among experts representing public health, health equity and primary care. The discussion will examine the report’s hypothesis that community factors at the county level can help mitigate the effects of this pandemic and other health emergencies. The discussion will also address questions about both whether we adequately leveraged existing primary care infrastructure and whether our country’s level of investment in primary care and public health is adequate for the future.

A PDF version of the report will be available on the PCC’s website at the beginning of the event.
