PCPCC 2014 Annual Fall Conference Opens Today

WASHINGTON – Today the Patient-Centered Primary Care Collaborative (PCPCC) kicked off its three day Annual Fall Conference at the Grand Hyatt in Washington, D.C. The conference’s theme, “Patient-Centered Primary Care: At the Heart of Value and Quality,” focuses on the critical role patient-centered primary care plays in achieving health care delivery system reform.

“Now more than ever, stakeholders across the entire medical community are embracing primary care as the epicenter for connecting community supports with traditional health care services,” said Marci Nielsen, CEO of the PCPCC. “Our conference brings like-minded stakeholders together to discuss opportunities to partner in delivering high quality, coordinated, patient-focused care.”

Nearly 100 health care experts are slated to speak at the conference and each day will commence with a keynote address. Keynotes include Kathy Greenlee, JD, Assistant Secretary for Aging of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services; Mark McClellan, MD, PhD of the Brookings Institution; and patient and family advisor Melissa Thomason. Their remarks will touch on issues ranging from seniors, patient-centered medical homes and patient engagement.

The conference will also highlight implications of the midterm elections on health policy. The status of the Affordable Care Act, funding for the Children’s Health Insurance Program and the Sustainable Growth Rate are just a few of the issues affecting the health care industry that are expected to be covered in panel discussions.

“With midterm elections behind us, a big focus will be on what’s next for health policy during the lame duck session and into 2015,” said Nielsen. “We’re thrilled to have majority and minority Congressional committee staffers join us for a panel discussion on Friday to provide their perspectives on what to expect.”

The Congressional panel consists of majority and minority staff from the House Ways & Means Committee, Senate Budget Committee and Senate Committee on Finance. The discussion will be moderated by Elizabeth Fowler, the Vice President of Global Health Policy at Johnson & Johnson. Fowler previously served as chief health counsel to the Senate Committee on Finance and as a senior official in the Obama administration.

Onsite registration is available Nov. 12 – 14. For more information visit www.pcpcc.org/events.
