Amy Gibson, RN, MS Appointed to the Patient-Centered Outcomes Research Institute’s Patient Engagement Advisory Panel

WASHINGTON, DC (April 9, 2013) — The Patient-Centered Primary Care Collaborative’s (PCPCC) Chief Operating Officer Amy Gibson, RN, MS, was selected by the Patient-Centered Outcomes Research Institute (PCORI) to serve on its  newly established multi-stakeholder Patient Engagement Advisory Panel.

The panel will ensure that the highest patient engagement standards, and a culture of patient-centeredness is incorporate into all aspects of PCORI’s work.  The 21-member panel represents different sectors across the healthcare community, including researchers, clinicians, patients, caregivers, insurers, employers, policymakers, and industry. Just 84 individuals were selected to serve on four advisory panels from an application pool of over 1,000 individuals.

“Our advisory panels will help us identify and prioritize the questions that are important to patients, caregivers clinicians and others, and also help us evaluate all of our research programs,” said Anne Beal, MD, MPH, PCORI’s Deputy Executive Director, Chief Officer for Engagement and Chief Operating Officer.

Amy joined the PCPCC in 2010 and has been working for over a decade to promote and improve patient access to medical home. As COO, Amy is responsible for developing PCPCC’s strategic initiatives related to care delivery reform, and patient and family engagement. Prior to joining PCPCC, Amy held positions as the Assistant Director of the Boys Town Institute for Child Health Improvement in Omaha, Nebraska; Director of the Division of Children with Special Needs at the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP); and Director for the National Center of Medical Home Initiatives for Children with Special Needs. She holds a BS in nursing from the University of Illinois at Chicago, and an MS in nursing with an emphasis in parent-child nursing from Northern Illinois University.

Charters for PCORI Advisory Panels, including the scope of work for panelists, are available on the PCORI website. Advisory panel members are appointed for a one-year term, with the opportunity for reappointment for a maximum of two terms.
