PCPCC Welcomes New Board Members: Beverley Johnson and Harlan Levine

(WASHINGTON, DC) - The Primary Care Collaborative is delighted to announce the election of two health care experts to its board of directors: Beverley H. Johnson, President & CEO of the Institute for Patient- and Family-Centered Care and Harlan Levine, MD, of WellPoint.

Beverley H. Johnson has provided technical assistance and consultation for advancing the practice of patient- and family-centered care to more than 250 hospitals, health systems, and federal, state and provincial agencies. She has authored or co-authored numerous publications on patient- and family-centered practice, and currently serves as project director for several projects related to patient- and family-centered care.

“Beverley is one of the most recognized thought leaders working in consumer health. Her gift for fostering collaboration and her expertise in developing consumer engagement strategies will be a tremendous asset to the PCPCC,” said Marcia Nielsen, Ph.D., MPH, PCPCC CEO. “Right now, consumers don’t know about the PCMH, and they don’t understand how it can improve outcomes and lower costs. We need to engage individuals in their own care and around the medical home movement itself.”

Harlan Levine, MD, is executive vice president of WellPoint, leading the company’s Comprehensive Health Solutions Business Unit. In this role, Levine is responsible for improving access to high-quality, affordable care for the 34 million consumers who are members of the company’s affiliated health plans. Levine has more than 15 years of experience providing clinical health management, consultative services and program implementation support to businesses and organizations of all sizes, across a broad range of industries.

“Both these individuals bring a wealth of knowledge to the table, and they have the skills and talent to turn that knowledge into action--action that will help us advance an effective and efficient health system built on a strong foundation of primary care and the PCMH.” said David K. Nace, MD, PCPCC Chairman, and vice president and medical director of McKesson Corporation.
